Birth club, frozen custard, and Augies to open in Alx; what's next for Tysons; rates drop; and more

"For years, Tysons has been branded as “America’s next great city.” But as huge buildings fill up its skyline and people move in, the neighborhood’s businesses are trying to craft the next phase of Tysons’ identity."


"The Arlington Memorial Bridge will be completely closed during the first weekend of November as part of its multi-year, $227 million rehabilitation project. The National Park Service said in a press release today (Monday) that the bridge will be closed to all traffic — including cars, pedestrians, and cyclists — to make space for repair work on the southern side of the bridge."


"Capital Ale House, a Richmond restaurant concept with six locations in and around that city, is making its way north to the city of Fairfax. Ale House Holdings has signed a lease for the former Hard Times Cafe location at 4069 Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax, in the historic Barbour House. Hard Times closed in January."


"Frozen custard truck Goodies could be opening as a bricks-and-mortar frozen custard stand at the iconic ice house at the corner of Payne Street and Commerce Street in Old Town. First, however, the D.C.-based custard business needs to clear the hurdle of obtaining a Special Use Permit."


"A new hotel with several hundred rooms could be coming soon to Ballston. Vienna-based developer Schupp Companies recently submitted plans to build a 10-story hotel with 240 rooms at 501 N. Randolph Street and 4019 5th Road N., according to the Arlington County website. Previously, the lot was home to celebrated Italian restaurant Tutto Bene before it closed in 2014, after 26 years in business."


"Construction is now underway at a mixed-use development just north of the Braddock Road Metro station. Braddock Gateway Phase II and Phase III broke ground last Friday at 1200 N. Fayette Street, according to an employee at Carmel Partners, the investment company behind Phase III of the project."


"Long-term mortgage rates dropped below 3.6 percent this week. On Thursday, Freddie Mac reported 3.57 percent with an average 0.5 point as the average for a 30-year mortgage, down eight basis points from last week."


"A unique club for women offering pre-natal and post-partum yoga, feeding circles, helpful workshops and a variety of resources for moms is now open in Alexandria."


"Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden is reopening tomorrow with an inside/outside bar, 35 taps and a heated outdoor patio. Augie’s has indoor seating for 140. The restaurant, located at 1106 King St., comes from Common Plate Hospitality, the team behind Urbano 116, Mason Social and Catch on the Ave."
